Hi, I’m Anita.
Welcome to Vidya Tutoring
The pursuit of knowledge has always been at the heart of who I am. In fact, vidya means “knowledge” in Sanskrit — and it also happens to be my middle name.
I am a former middle school teacher at independent schools including The Dalton School, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, and Rodeph Sholom School in New York City.
I have a bachelors in Communication from the University of Southern California and masters in International Development from SOAS, University of London. This academic background helped me develop a deep curiosity about people, learning, and the world.
Driven by passion
While I loved the classroom, I found my true passion in working one-on-one with students and building long-term relationships with families. I especially enjoy guiding students from their late elementary years onward, helping them strengthen academic skills while developing their confidence and love of learning. I strive to create a calm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and growing at their own pace.
Outside of teaching, I am a devoted student of belly dancing, an aspiring novelist, and an avid consumer of gelato at my namesake gelateria. I live in Harlem, New York, with my dog, Luna.
“Prior to Anita, I had never had a tutor for school, and was extremely anxious to meet with one. Anita was instantly warm and patient with me. She will walk you through every step of confusion, no matter how long it takes.”
